WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) is an innovative program of the National Center for Fathering focusing on prevention of violence in our nation’s schools by using the positive influence of fathers and father-figures.  The goal is to have men spend at least one day a year at the school to be an extra set of eyes and ears, and to be a positive male role model.

Who are WATCH D.O.G.S.? Fathers / Father-figures, Step Dads, Grandfathers, Uncles, Brothers (21 or older), Teacher’s family (sons, husbands, fiancé), Civic Organizations (Kiwanis, Rotary, etc.), Civil Servants (Police, Fire), or Corporate Partners.

WATCH D.O.G.S.  benefit in many ways. WATCH D.O.G.S.  get a glimpse of students’ everyday world, gain a greater awareness of the positive impact they can have on students’ lives (academics, self esteem, social behavior), and receive smiles and high fives in the hallway.

Your day will begin when you arrive at school in your official WATCH D.O.G.S.  t-shirt.  Your children will wear ‘My Hero is the WATCH D.O.G.S. Today” t-shirts. You will greet students as they arrive at 7:15 AM.  When announcements are made, you and your children will be introduced and a picture will be taken for the ‘WATCH D.O.G.S. Wall of Fame’.  After announcements, you will be given a quick orientation, including all the do’s and don’ts.  You will be given a detailed schedule and map to begin your day.    During the day you will have the opportunity to visit your children’s class and have lunch with them.  At the end of the day you will complete an exit survey and assist with the dismissal of students.

The program will be kicked-off with a Free Pizza Night for Dads and/or Dad-figures and their students on Thursday September 13th. The goal is to have the first WATCH D.O.G.S. on campus in early September.
