Class Shirts

Class shirts are different from the spirit shirts and they are used specifically on field trips. Each classroom has its own color. Two weeks after school starts order forms for class shirts are sent home.  For order delivery purposes, please fill out a separate order form and write a separate check for each child.  If you have any questions about class shirts please contact Sandy Aguilar at aguilarsandy@hotmail.com.

 Faculty Appreciation

The Faculty Appreciation team coordinates 4 luncheons throughout the school year (one each quarter) for the faculty/staff of Encino Park Elementary. The quarterly luncheons are a special way for PTA parents to extend their gratitude for all the EP staff. These casual luncheons also provide an opportunity for communication between PTA and EP staff. We are always looking for volunteers who enjoying preparing salads, casseroles and baked goods. If cooking is not your forte, your help with paper goods, centerpieces and many different types of side items is greatly appreciated. If you can help in any way with Faculty Appreciation, please e-mail Brenda Foley at fbandit327@aol.com or Kathryn Ellis at jdekce@aol.com.

 Fall Fundraiser

After many years of catalogue fundraiser sales, Encino Park PTA is changing to a Greenback Fundraiser.  A Greenback Fundraiser is when we ask parents, teachers and community members for a one-time-monetary donation to the Encino Park PTA.  IF, we meet the budget needs, this will be our only big fundraiser for the entire year!

Some of the benefits of a Greenback fundraiser are:

        -It saves our families time.

-100% of every contribution is tax-deductible.

-100% of dollars stay in our school.

        -No Doorbell Ringing.

        -It is environmentally friendly.

Catalogue sales have always successfully met the needs of our budget for school programs and allowed for PTAs yearly gifts to school such as: our beautiful playground sunshades, core knowledge curriculum books and books for our Guided Reading Room. Our most recent gift to school is the expanded brick pavestone walk way at the front of the school.  In order to replace catalogue sales with a Greenback Night and Silent Auction, continued support from Encino Park families is needed.  Please send your check in, or you may donate with your credit card at our online store.  No contribution is too big or too small.

   Founder’s Day

The Founder’s Day chairman is responsible for making and sending out invitations to all PTA Life Members and their guest, and the principal. They are also required to make name tags, decorate the school’s tables and create a basket of items for the auction at the Founder’s Day banquet. The banquet is a friendly competition among all the schools in the North East district.

Grounds and Gardening
The mission of the Grounds and Gardening Committee is twofold.  First, to help in any way we can to provide a beautiful learning environment for our students.  This includes hosting a campus beautification day at the beginning of the school year and any other projects on an as needed basis during the school year.  Secondly, to act as the facilitators to ensure the school has an active classroom garden program.
Volunteers are needed for the Campus beautification day.  The time commitment is minimal and flexible and only requires working during the beautification day and on any special projects which may arise.  Volunteers are also needed for the classroom gardens.  Volunteers should be available 1-2 hours per month  as needed to help plant, cultivate, and supervise the classroom garden for each class which chooses to participate.

Library
Library volunteers assist in the library for an hour or more a week. Help is needed sorting and shelving books, as well as miscellaneous duties on occasion.  It is easy to learn and a quiet way to spend some volunteer time.  Keeping the books on the shelves in the proper place ensures our kids will be able to find them easily.  Volunteering in the library is also a great way to come in contact with books you know your child will enjoy, but may not find on their own.

Additional volunteers are needed for the annual Book Fair.  The Book Fair is a 2-3 day event in the library where many volunteers are needed.  We need people to help set up, work during the sale (running the register, finding books, restocking, etc.), and assist in taking down once the Book Fair is over.  All hours of shifts are available, including evening hours.

If you are interested in helping in the library or have any questions, please email or call Leslie Lopez
at ltlopez@satx.rr.com 481-7880.

Marquee
The Marquee is a great way to keep parents and students informed on upcoming Encino Park events. With today's busy schedules, it's nice to have a reminder that's hard to miss!!
Reading Room
The Reading Room is a new project started last year, providing teachers with small sets of easily accessible reading materials organized by level. Teachers rely on these materials each week to help our children improve their reading skills. Volunteers are needed 2-3 times per year to organize and add new reading materials to shelves, as well as inventory existing materials. Help is also needed on an ongoing basis (1-2 times per month) to help maintain the organization of the room. Helping in this room is a great way to show the teachers and students how much you care about Encino Park Elementary and our reading success! If you are interested in helping us make this reading source a success for our school please contact our Chairperson Teri James at terijames1@msn.com.

Special Projects

Throughout the year, the Special Projects Committee takes on different projects to assist or serve the community and to help our sister school.  The committee will also undertake different projects to help raise money for Encino Park Elementary.

The Eagle Angel Tree project will be held again this year to help the families of Olmos Elementary with Christmas.  We will also plan one more project for our sister school according to their needs.

Last year, Special Projects took on the Used Book Sale Drive.  The Drive was very successful and brought in money for our school.  We plan on participating again this year.  The Drive takes place in the spring of 2010.

Volunteers are always needed.  If you would like to help, please contact Janet Wingrove at 483-8851.

Encino Eagle spirit is well and alive!  Go Eagles! This is a very fun and creative role!  This committee is in charge of all spirit items provided to the Eagle community by the PTA.  In the spring and summer months, we take inventory of previous years’  items and make plans for designing new items to be sold in the fall.  Our first sales night is Back to School Night, usually the Thursday before school  begins. We have all our new items ( t-shirts, sweatshirts, water bottles,  backpack tags etc) available for parents to purchase. We can use lots of help the week before school getting our items ready and selling them this night!  We would love your help.  Once school gets going, we send  home a list of all our items and take orders through our lil’ eagles.  We  package the orders and get them back to our Eagle families quickly!   Periodically we offer our items by means of their “take home folders”,  at PTA meetings and special events. Beginning in the summer of 2008, all our spirit items are available for order thru this website at the Eagle Store.   Take a look at our great selection by clicking here; and wear your spirit item with PRIDE!   Want to order items, but don’t want to use our website?  Click here to download our order form.  You can send  it to school with your lil’ eagle and your child’s teacher will make sure it gets to us.  If we have your items in stock we can get them to you  quickly, if we need to order them it may take a little longer.  Email us, Shelia Morse and Kendra Barnes, your Eagle Spirit Committee Co-Chairs, at encinospiritorders@gmail.com if you would like to help. Remember, once an  Eagle always an Eagle!  Thanks for showing your Eagle Pride!

Student Directory

The Encino Park Student Directory is a great resource for the families of Encino Park Elementary.  The directory is the most current resource for setting up play dates with classmates, contacting a neighbor for carpooling and for finding a friend for missed homework assignments.  In addition to all that, the directory can be useful for Birthday invitations, Valentine's Day cards, contacting the room reps and many other school activities.  The directory is a PTA publication that is made available only to families currently enrolled at Encino Park Elementary.  No information listed in the directory is used for any marketing or sales purposes.  The directory will have a slightly new format this year but it will still contain student listings by grade level and alphabetically.  The directory will be $5.00 this year.

Other Areas of PTA

Arts in Education

The focus of the Arts in Education is to promote the arts in the school and community to provide a well rounded education for our children.   Arts in Education supports the Young Masters Art Show, Music, Theatrical Activities and other artistic activities throughout the year.  Additionally, the PTA publicizes and promotes student participation in the National PTA’s annual Reflections program. This program provides fine arts opportunities for students in Pre-K through 12 in literature, music, photography, and visual arts.    If you have a creative talent or always wanted to be part of something creative, please volunteer!  There are many ways you can contribute to the success of our programs!
Historian
The historian prepares and updates a record of the activities and achievements of the association and makes historical facts available on request to the membership. A permanent record of the activities should be kept in a convenient place, such as the school library.
Council Delegate

The council delegate has an essential and very important role in PTA. Each delegate attends the general meetings of the council, representing the local unit as a voting member of the council voting body.

Life Membership

Online Nomination for Texas PTA Life Membership

The Life Membership chairman selects the recipient (s) after careful consideration of qualifications for the Texas PTA Honorary Life Membership and/or Extended Service Award and/or National PTA Life Achievement Award and/or Recognition Square awards. The chairman secures certificate(s) and/or pin(s) for the presentation of award(s).

 Hospitality

The Hospitality chairman creates a feeling of friendliness and warmth at each PTA meeting by providing greeters, nametags, registration sheets, refreshments and other activities as planned. The chairman may provide special activities during such times as American Education Week, Texas Public Schools Week, National PTA Teacher Appreciation Week, etc.

Room Representatives

Classroom Volunteers, also known as “Room  Reps”, are an integral part of the classroom activities at Encino Park Elementary.  As a Room Representative or Co-Room Representative, you will coordinate the Winter Holiday and Spring Fiesta classroom parties.  Your teacher will depend on your organizational skills to ensure that the classroom parties are a success.  At the beginning of the year Kim Cowherd, our Room Representative Chairman, will hold an orientation session for Room Reps and will, at that time, provide you with everything you’ll need for a successful and fun school year.
