The motto of our PTA Environmental Committee continues to be that small decisions produce big results and even kids can save the earth. We want to create a green school in order to help our school environment and in hopes that the students will take what they have learned and apply it at home. If they become environmentally conscientious as children, then they will most likely continue with these good decisions as they get older. Hopefully their green habits will rub off on others. This is the best way we can improve our planet. Children are naturally interested and excited to help their environment. They love plants, trees and animals and they want to help them and keep them around.
Our school’s environmental success has to do with the entire school community working together. The PTA, teachers, administrators, parents, members of the community and students have worked together in the past and continue to work together towards making our school greener and in turn, our planet a cleaner place to live.
Walk to School Wednesdays
We are encouraging students to walk (ride bikes, scooters, etc.) to school every Wednesday. Think of how much less pollution we will emit in the air if we avoid driving. This is a step in the right direction towards having a cleaner planet with better air to breathe.
Green Club
The Green Team is a great opportunity for students to learn more about our environment and what they can do to help the planet through hands-on activities. Here is a list of just some of the activities the Green Team will be participating in:
*Watt Watchers Patrol
*No Idle Campaign
*Green Crafts
*Assist in School-Wide Recycling Programs
*Participate in A Water Conservation Project
*Race Solar Cars
*Make Green T-Shirts
*Create Bulletin Boards
*Put on a “Save the Planet” Musical
*Explore Energy Stations
. . . and Much More!
Don’t forget about our ongoing recycling programs. Bring in cell phones and ink jet cartridges from home and get a ticket for our monthly prize drawing!
