Arts In Education
Reflections Program
Each year the National PTA designates a theme for students to create visual art and photography around! The theme for the 2011-2012 school year is "Diversity Means."
Beginning in September through October we are inviting ALL children to come up with a project that REFLECTS what they think Diversity means. Children can enter in one (or all 6) of the following areas:
Choose a link above to learn more details about that area. For general participation guidelines, please click here.
All projects must be turned in the week of October 16-21 to classrooms, or in the Library. 20% of our entries will be sent to the State level competition. Classes who have 100% participation will receive an invitation to a special concert and a day of art outside the classroom. For the class with the most participation in thier grade level will receive a prize for their class!
ALL participants are invited to the annual Art Gala on November 15 at 6:30 p.m. where we literally roll out the red carpet and invite students to get dressed up to see their art displayed in the park we call the library. It is during the Gala that all art entries will be viewed in an amazing gallery set up in the library. This "art in the park" evening is sponsored by the PTA, and hosted by a team of parents who love our children and love art! . This This is a fun event that includes dessert served by our Watch Dog Dads, entertainment by the Guadalupe Dance Compay, Folklorico Flamenco Dance Group.
Please begin discussing what the term Diversity means to your child at home. Some classes will have time for these projects to happen during class so check in with your child's teacher. Explore what medium appeals to your child and remember that the theme is extremely important. All entries relate to "Diversity."
